Listening to Power Surge “Shadows Warning” triggered some good memories from my mind. As I always say, music has the power of making us travel in time or, in my very especific case, to trigger memories. I have a kind of musical memory. I’ll elaborate. When I listen to a song, or to a band, I happen to remember the time, or the times, I used to hear it. Fun fact is that every time I have a different recollection. Our mind plays tricks on us.
The strongest recollection Power Surge “Shadows Warning” gives me is of Iron Maiden from the “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” era. I’ll have to elaborate this a little better because the music in here does not sound exactly as Iron Maiden’s. It is the kind of music that brings you some recollection. There are features here that help a lot as Roko Nikolic’s tone of voice that reminds Bruce Dickinson’s without the pitches. Well, useless to say vocals make a huge difference in music. Regarding to the instrumentals, I must say they mix things most of times. “Breathe New Life” is a track that triggers the memory about “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” era. Sometimes it’s not the music itself, it’s its intent that triggers something in our minds. Here, I guess it’s the chorus, but I cannot say for sure. Other tracks as the slow cadenced instrumentals with a cool guitar riff “With the Dawning” triggers other kind of memories, however when vocals come Bruce Dickinson haunts us again – hihihihihihi.
On Power Surge‘s behalf, their music is very melodic with lots of twists bouncing fast tunes as “No Turning Back“ with slower ones as “With the Dawning” embellished with criative guitars and lots of melody with the extra leverage of triggering memories. One more time, I loved the overtones of the guitars and the drums. On the other hand, sometimes as in “Calm Before the Storm” the band gets too melodic, but that’s not a deadly flaw at all, it’s the band’s signature.
“Shadows Warning” recriates very well the 1980’s, the epoch the band chose to honor with flying colors. Power Surge really know how to equalize aggression and melody which is a required ability. The most obvious advantage is their music does not get boring or annoying. A big hail to “Carry On” that features Dejana and Vlad Claymorean for the swing of the guitar riff and Dejana’s voice that reminds the great Leather Leone, one more unsung force of Metal music.
Power Surge “Shadows Warning” will be released on May 02nd via FHM Records.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
