SEPULTURA’s ANDREAS KISSER Shares His Opinion On CAVALERA Brothers Re-Recording Band’s Albums

When Andreas Kisser appeared on Rockast, he discussed about the fans consistently asking about reunion with the Cavalera brothers.

He noted that Iggor and Max perpetuate this nostalgia by, for example, re-recording classic SEPULTURA albums. In 2023, Max and Iggor unveiled new re-recordings of Bestial Devastation EP and SEPULTURA‘s debut studio album, Morbid Visions.

Adreas said (transcribed by Whiplash and translated from Portuguese via Google Translate): “They themselves keep doing that when re-recording albums and s**t. Keep skating in the past. That’s fine too, if they’re having a good time, f**k them! Understand? We do what we do and whoever wants to follow, let them follow. Every one has an opinion. We have always been open and clear, this idea of a reunion, this pressure, has always been there, since they left the band. Now that we are ending, nothing will change, the same people will continue saying the same things”.

During a last year’s with the “Mike Nelson Show,” Igor Cavalera discussed the possibility of the classic SEPULTURA lineup reunion.

He said: “I have to be honest with you, man. The reunion, in my opinion, it’s me and my brother — that’s the person that I wanna be united with. So, for me, if the other stuff, it doesn’t happen, I can’t really be too bummed about it. Of course, it would be amazing, but the real reunion for me is just me and my brother being together. That’s what makes me happy.”

In 2020 interview with “Scars And Guitars,” SEPULTURA bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. said that a reunion with former frontman Max Cavalera would have to happen “naturally.”

When asked if he has had any contact with Max in the last 10 years or so, Paulo replied: “Not at all. Zero. [Laughs] We just separated. Each one of us went to [his] own path.”

Addressing the possibility of a reunion with MaxPaulo said: “I don’t know about the future, but right now — I don’t like to force the situation that’s not there anymore. If one day it comes to terms, it has to come naturally.

“So far, that hasn’t happened. But I really don’t bother and think about that too much anymore. That was 20 years ago. And I just keep going. You cannot make everybody happy in this world. The best thing [you can do is] learn from your mistakes and keep walking and try to do better in the future.”

Igor‘s brother, Max, left the band in 1996 after the rest of the band split with his wife Gloria as their manager. Igor Cavalera stuck around with the group for another 10 years before leaving SEPULTURA and re-teaming with Max in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY.

SEPULTURA kicked off their farewell tour on March, 1st at Arena Hall in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The packed venue signified the band’s first concert with Greyson Nekrutman (formerly of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) as their new touring drummer, who replaced SEPULTURA‘s longstanding drummer Eloy Casagrande in February.
