SLIPKNOT’s CLOWN Explains Why The Band Rarely Talks About Their Late Former Bandmate, JOEY JORDISON

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan opened up about his relationship with former bandmate Joey Jordison, who passed away in 2021.

Jordison, who parted ways with the band in 2013, appeared to have had a tense relationship with SLIPKNOT after his departure. However, Clown hinted that under different circumstances, Jordison might have been able to rejoin the band.

In a new interview with Knotfest, Clown said: “I don’t know, man, it’s just like something that you had your whole life, that you lost, when we lost Joey. And if everybody thinks about it, we really never talk [about that situation]. You can’t find anything of us explaining all that, because it’s nobody’s f**king business, and he’s our brother. And who knows, man, there might have been a chance in life. I don’t know the future. There might have been a chance we would have gotten back together. I don’t know. I can’t tell you yes or no, but there’s a better chance [of] yes [than] not because of friendship and growing older and talking and being able to understand things.

“So I just want you to know we’re having a really good time with our music and with each other. We’re all working really hard right now, really hard. As hard as it is to break in new philosophies, to do this setlist, to make new things, to have new people. It’s so much work.”

Joey Jordison died on July 26, 2021, at the age of 46. His family did not specify the cause of death, but said he died peacefully in his sleep. Jordison had been diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare neurological disorder that causes inflammation of the spinal cord, in 2013. He said he had recovered from the condition with physical therapy and medication. Transverse myelitis can cause symptoms such as weakness, pain, sensory alterations, and autonomic dysfunction.

Last year, Jordison‘s estate initiated lawsuit against SLIPKNOT alleging that the band capitalized on Jordison‘s death to boost sales for their 2022 album, The End, So Far, after experiencing a decline in sales following his passing. Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Corey Taylor and Michael Shawn “Clown” Crahan falsely stated that they reached out to Jordison‘s family to offer condolences.

The legal action also addresses Jordison‘s departure from SLIPKNOT, citing his health struggles and removal from the band via email. The lawsuit asserts that the band failed to return various personal belongings and equipment, some of which are allegedly still being showcased at Knotfest.

SLIPKNOT has denied these allegations and is seeking the dismissal of the lawsuit. The outcome of the legal action is pending.
