FOO FIGHTERS were joined by Shane Hawkins, the son of their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, for a surprise performance of “I’ll Stick Around” during their concert on Thursday night (June 20) at London Stadium in London, United Kingdom.

Before diving into the second single from FOO FIGHTERS‘ self-titled 1995 debut album, frontman Dave Grohl addressed the 17-year-old Hawkins: “Hi, Shane. Thank you for waiting three hours to come play drums with us.”

This wasn’t Shane‘s first time playing with the FOO FIGHTERS. He previously paid tribute to his late father with the band at two tribute concerts in London and Los Angeles in September 2022. Additionally, he joined the FOO FIGHTERS at the Boston Calling festival in May 2023 to perform “I’ll Stick Around.”

Hawkins was found dead on March 25, 2022, at the Four Seasons Casa Medina hotel in Bogota, Colombia while FOO FIGHTERS were on tour.

An official cause of death for Hawkins hasn’t been released, but Colombia’s attorney general’s office released a preliminary toxicology report, saying that medical examiners found evidence of 10 types of substances in Hawkins‘s body, including opioids, benzodiazepines, marij*ana and antidepressants.
