Bands with agenda and history is a thing that I have always fell for. The most elaborate, the most it gets my interest. Well, here we’ve got Apostasie with their first album “Non Est Deus,” where they narrate the “Historia Ecclesiastica Perversa” – the madness of dogmas, and rituals of the Roman Catholic Church.
As the press release says the album discusses events in the so-called Christian “history of salvation,” the Latin-Roman church history, as well as the closely related European history. These events and processes are staged as moments of religious madness, dogmatic contradiction and, at the same time, rational criticism and resistance. The events described cover the period from the so-called “turning point of time”, i.e. the birth of Christ, to the so-called Reformation of the Latin-Roman church by Martin Luther. Hmm, pretty good, huh?
Musicwise, Apostasie’s Black Metal blends with many Folk Metal features being fair to say they are a mix of both. The hurdy-gurdy in “Isapóstolos” is no mistake, by the way. The combination of the hurdy-gurdy with some Black Metal guitars is really a killer. The band did a great trip around Metal music in its seven minutes. I guess for a band in its debut album they really know what they are doing here with no shadow of doubt. There are also some Prog Rock keyboards and other effects in the album. All those elements give “Non Est Deus” some kind of demonic debauchery and mockery. It’s true Apostasie don’t hide their disdain for any religious belief. I really liked the martial mood that surrounds “Eikon” and its prone to Epic Old School Heavy Metal. Its chorus kind of reminds me of Running Wild’s “Mordor.” But, only the chorus, because the track is totally different. The keyboards of “Pein, Pest” give it some very different mooding, some kind of dark festive atmosphere. It’s like some weird and insane circus where the clown is there to attract the folks and the magician kills all the visitors during the show. Maybe that’s the best representation of what “Non Est Deus” musically is.
Maybe it’s soon to say, but I foresee a bright future to Apostasie due to what I heard here. Truth is “Non Est Deus” isn’t that far from being a masterpiece. It’s heavy, it’s wicked, it’s different, its everything fans expect from a Black Metal band.
Apostasie “Non Est Deus” was released on November 29th via Trollzorn Records.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
