Courtney Love recently offered her perspective on Taylor Swift‘s music career, asserting that the current pop sensation’s impact on the industry isn’t significant.
Speaking to The Standard, the former lead singer of HOLE expressed her belief that female musicians in the contemporary music scene often fall into clichés, lacking in innovation.
She said: “Taylor is not important, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
This stands in stark contrast to a statement made back in 2021 when Love posted a photo with Swift, praising the Pennsylvania-born artist as an “aspirational huge role model for many young women.”
Swift wasn’t the sole artist Love singled out for criticism. During the same interview, she also discussed Lana Del Rey, another artist she had previously commended. Reflecting on Lana, Love remarked: “I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off. Up until ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ I thought she was great. When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
