My initial look at “Beyond Shadowland’s” cover told me it would be a Hard Rock album. The band’s name Six by Six gave me the same feelng maybe because I was kind of addressed to Kix – please, don’t ask me why. I really can’t say. To my surprise, and maybe to my child of the night’s, “Beyond Shadowland” has lots of surprises regarding to its sonancy. Ok, there is some Hard Rock spirit in it, but I would say the band would be more satisfied with a Progressive label to it. Let’s add some experimental to it all as well. Listening to “Obiliex” a band that I can immeadiately relate to it is the 1970’s Kansas era. I guess that does it.
Truth be told, an album as “Beyond Shadowland” is always a surprise. Each track tells a very different story, if you ask me. The impression I got when I heard a track as “Titans” made me think about everything I wrote above because it is something as if The Police’s Sting joined Yes in the 1980’s to be the lead vocals for “Leave it,” for instance. It’s never boring to listen to an album like because when you are satisfied with what you wrote comes a track as “Spectre” with its Metal driven guitar riffs and leads, but with a swing that makes it near to a more jazzy approach. Or even the guitars of “Sympathise” with a ZZ Top slant.
It’s very interesting how Six by Six managed so well to boil in their cauldron so many diverse influences as I told before. It goes from the ides of the 1970’s to the instrumentals of the 1980’s and the modern spirit of combining all this. Bottomline, I could be writing lines and more lines telling how surprised I am with Six by Six and “Beyond Shadowland” but I’ll leave my dear fan decides. If you want an album far from the common ground of Metal and Progressive Rock this is it.
Six by Six “Beyond Shadowland” will be released on April 26th via Century Media Records.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
