Crownshift – Crownshift Review

This is the debut album of one more project band that gathers members of some of today’s most recognized Metal bands so well-proven their valor by the passing of time as Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Wintersun and Finntrol. I couldn’t agree more with the band’s site that says “covering seamlessly a diversity of styles, the quartet has a unique signature on their modern sound. Hypnotizing melodies paired with ripping riffs, from moody mid-tempo songs to a fierce prog-death-metal opus, Crownshift were born to be master of all trades.” It’s the pure truth. “Crownshift” sounds to be the amalgam of many updated Metal styles and fusions. I think a fusion album is what defines it best.

In fact, from the very beginning with “Stellar Halo,” “Crownshift” gives everything it got, that is, a cauldron of influences of Metal music most notably the more modern one. The track feels like it’s from metalcore bands as strong as it can be with the electronic effects. I dislike to use the term, but pop fits like a glove here. In general, there are very few guitar leads here. Or they are very planned or they are very economic. Or should I say too short to mention? “Rule the Show” comes with more power and a hell of a drumming and, still, all the effects. At first, vocals are clean with a certain taste of the 1990’s, but then they get harsher at the same page of the drumming. Great to see the pop feeling of the previous track vanished. Well, album warmners are still the ones choosen to be the most palatable. It’s a fact that this track varies a lot in terms of influences, as all the album does. However, the modern Metal taste and the effects rule. They are everywhere here.

Alright, “Crownshift” isn’t the album for the fans of the most modern facets of Metal music. I guess I warn to avoid it. However, if you’re into them it’s a plateful. To be very true I expected more.

Crownshift “Crownshift” will be released on May 10th via Nuclear Blast Records.
