IRON MAIDEN: NICKO MCBRAIN Struck By Gong After BRUCE DICKINSON Plays With It (Video)

Nicko McBrain Hit With Bong by Bruce Dickinson

During a late June concert in Dublin, Ireland, IRON MAIDEN drummer, Nicko McBrain, narrowly escaped a significant injury when a 40-inch symphonic gong fell onto his back. The incident took place on June 24 at the 3Arena, in the midst of the band’s performance of “Alexander The Great.”

As the song progressed, IRON MAIDEN singer, Bruce Dickinson, climbed to the walkway located behind McBrain‘s drum set. Using a mallet – a percussion beater with a large, felted head – he struck the gong which, seemingly not securely attached, dislodged from its stand and came crashing down onto McBrain‘s back.

Bruce paused, visibly taken aback by the unexpected development, before smiling at the audience and moving to the right side of the walkway. Within seconds, a stage hand was seen attempting to reattach the gong to its stand.
