Earlier this month, specifically on August the 3rd, METALLICA frontman James Hetfield marked his 60th birthday. He has been a pivotal figure in the world of metal for over four decades, leading one of the most successful bands in the genre’s history.
The day after his birthday, the iconic band commenced the American run of their “M72” global tour.
In the midst of the concert, following the band’s performance of “If Darkness Had a Son” from their 72 Seasons album, the audience surprises Hetfield by singing happy birthday, much to his surprise and delight.
A noticeably moved Hetfield then spoke to the audience, saying: “Thank you for remembering my birthday. My 7th decade on this planet, 60 years old, can’t believe it!”
He ended his speech by sharing, “”I’m glad I didn’t listen to my dad when I was young,” just before launching into “Fade to Black.”
