Kayas – By the Moon and the Stars Review

I do have a thing for albums that start with the most honest and straight from hell grow as this Kayas “By the Moon and the Stars” does. The incredible energy “Tempest” releases is something we all live by. I doubt any metalhead in this sad and lonely and pathetic will be able to stay put listening to it. There’s no frigging way. High adrenalized albums like this one are the ones that make me feel there is much more to come around Metal music.

Kayas managed a way to combine the melodic guitars of NWOBHM with the aggression of Death Metal delivering us here the one-of-a-kind album. The guitar interventions in “Deadwood” are simply sublime. It’s not the technique but also the tones that amazed me so much. I have to say the guitar tones in “Lightless” called my eye as they kind of remind me of some piracy inspired songs that bands as Running Wild made famous. Well, it’s also possible to say, to some extent, that the speed and power of the track are a homage to Running Wild. The combination Kayas do of melody and power is a reminder of the band. By the way, I was really astonished by the speed and technique combined with a great melodic sense that guitar duo Devan Howes and Jessica Yang imprinted here in the songs. The way both guitarist harmonize in “The Harvester” deserves Metal fans to listen to it more and more. Pay attention, Kayas are a band not to take the eyes from them.

As my dear child of the night may have realized, I was really surprised by “By the Moon and the Stars,” an album that gathers perfectly the sleepless spirit of Melodic Death Metal a genre some may say it’s already worn out, but in my opinion, has so much more to give. It’s with game changer albums as this one. I guess it would presumptious to say “By the Moon and the Stars” touched perfection. It’s an album to listen and listen again and again.

Kayas “By the Moon and the Stars” was released on August 02nd.
