Midnight Phantom – Murder on 42nd Street Review

As “Rock ‘N’ Roll Time Machine” tells in its chorus this “Murder on 42nd Street” is a travel through a time machine. It’s a trip through the best time of Hair Metal for the best and for the worst. This very especific track, for instance, is heavily influenced by 1980’s Kiss and their “Crazy Nights” era. The music Midnight Phantom do here is heavily influenced by bands as the aforementioned Kiss, Whitesnake from their self-tittled era, Def Leppard from “Hysteria” era and many others. It’s a Metal music with glamour. That means full of keyboards, gluey choruses, melodic lead guitars and lots, but lots of spandex and glitter. Well, it’s no news I like it. However, one more glitter and it would be over, if you know what I mean. The album is on my personal edge.

“Murder on 42nd Street” is the kind of album me and my friends used to call guilty pleasure. We liked them, but we didn’t use to say a word out. It was among all of us. But all that “Murder on 42nd Street” is fun. It’s impossible not to bang with a track as “Night Stalker” which has a strong taste of U.D.O.’s solo career. As I said, a time travel throught the best times of the 1980’s. The song is very energetic and strong with great guitars. Album warmer “Danger Zone” gives the tone from the beginning with its Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” era inspiration. And, of course, the tittle used more than a zillion times. One of nation’s best. Of course, there is a ballad called, as expected, “Dream of You.” More sugared impossible, but it’s so delicious…

If you’re expecting an album that will save Metal music from the danger zone it’s better go for the next. Sorry. No, it won’t. It’s, though, an album that will save you my dear child of the night of a very boring day at work. It’s an album to listen and smile. Is it to ask much from an album? I really don’t know.

Midnight Phantom “Murder on 42nd Street” was independently released on July 14th.
