In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock to discuss the 2024 remastered re-release of UFO’s 1977 album Lights Out, UFO frontman Phil Mogg was asked about the potential future endeavors of the band.
“No, no. I think it’s come to a conclusion,” he responded. “We did that last U.K. tour in 2019, just before COVID. So that was kind of the end of it, and the time was right.”
In August 2022, Mogg experienced a heart attack. The British-born musician, now 76 years old, was swiftly taken to the hospital, where he underwent a coronary angioplasty procedure. During this intervention, two stents were placed in his coronary arteries to alleviate blockages and maintain the patency of the narrowed arteries.
The commencement of UFO‘s farewell tour was slated for October 15, 2022, starting at the De Casino in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, and concluding with a final performance at the Fuzz Club in Athens, Greece, on October 29, 2022.
Upon the initial announcement of UFO‘s last concert, Mogg approached the prospect of this poignant farewell performance with a blend of emotions, simultaneously eager to reunite with their devoted fan base during the summer and autumn of 2022.
Mogg said: “After so many years with countless highlights, fantastic experiences and lots of beautiful memories — as well as some difficult moments, naturally — it’ll be a worthy finale to say goodbye to your fans in person. I know that there are bound to be some very emotional moments on both sides.”
