Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of RUSH made an unexpected appearance on Thursday evening (May 23) at the Gordon Lightfoot tribute concert held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The enduring bandmates and close friends joined BLUE RODEO onstage at Massey Hall, delivering a rendition of Lightfoot‘s classic “The Way I Feel.”
Following the performance, Lee elaborated to The Canadian Press on their decision to participate in the star-studded “Celebrating Gordon Lightfoot” occasion.
Lee said: “Gordon Lightfoot was to musicians of my generation a true Canadian musical hero — and to boot he was a really sweet person. Both Alex and I really wanted to pay tribute.”
Additionally gracing the concert stage were folk artist Meredith Moon, Tom Cochrane, Dallas Green from CITY AND COLOUR, Sylvia Tyson from the 1960s folk duo IAN & SYLVIA, and various other performers.
Victoria Lord, spokesperson for Gordon Lightfoot, announced that Lightfoot passed away due to natural causes at 7:30 p.m. on May 1, 2023 at the age of 84, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
