As per BBC News, Steve Dawson, the original bassist of SAXON, has been sentenced to jail for multiple instances of abusing a six-year-old girl during the 1990s.

Dawson, aged 72 and formerly part of SAXON until his departure in 1986, received the verdict during a previous court session at Sheffield Crown Court on March 21. He was subsequently handed a five-year prison term on April 11.

Detective Constable Robert Heath, the officer in charge of the case, said Dawson “thought he had got away” with his attacks on a vulnerable victim 30 years ago.

“She has shown extraordinary strength through coming forward,” he added. “It is clear that his evil acts have remained with her throughout her life, and I hope this sentence goes some way to allowing her to move on from these traumatic events.”

Heath emphasized the seriousness of the charge, stating that the case “demonstrates just how seriously we take these offenses.” He urged individuals who have experienced any form of offense, regardless of when it occurred, to come forward and report it to the authorities.
