SCOWL Withdraws From Welcome To Rockville Due To U.S. Army Sponsoring The Event

Scowl 2023

The Santa Cruz hardcore band, SCOWL, announced their withdrawal from Welcome To Rockville, citing their objection to the U.S. Army’s sponsorship of the Daytona Beach, FL-based DWP music festival. This decision echoes their recent choice to decline participation in an official SXSW showcase for similar reasons.

The band said the following:

We will not be performing at this year’s Welcome To Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, FL due to the US Army’s Sponsorship of the event.

That action prompted Texas Governor Greg Abbott to weigh in on the issue, stating:

“Bands pull out of SXSW over U.S. Army sponsorship.

Bye. Don’t come back.

Austin remains the HQ for the Army Futures Command.

San Antonio is Military City USA.

We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas.

If you don’t like it, don’t come here.”

The upcoming Welcome To Rockville festival is scheduled for May 9th-12th in Daytona Beach, FL, featuring headline performances by FOO FIGHTERS, SLIPKNOT, LIMP BIZKIT, and many more.
