BLACK SABBATH’s TONY IOMMI And SOAD’s SERJ TANKIAN Release New Single ‘Deconstruction’

Tony Iommi Serj Tankian

Gibson has introduced the GIBSON BAND, a dynamic group of Gibson artists. The official lyric video for their debut single, “Deconstruction,” is now available. This song was co-written by Serj Tankian from SYSTEM OF A DOWN and Cesar Gueikian, Gibson‘s CEO. It also features the legendary Tony Iommi from BLACK SABBATH on guitar.

Tankian, who is known for his role in SYSTEM OF A DOWN, is also a talented painter. The cover art for “Deconstruction” is actually based on one of his original paintings called “Our Mountains.”

Gibson Records, along with Cesar Gueikian, Serj Tankian, and Tony Iommi, have committed to donating all profits generated from the sales of “Deconstruction.” In addition, the funds raised from an auction featuring Serj Tankian‘s original painting, “Our Mountains,” and a special Gibson Les Paul Standard guitar adorned with the artwork will also be donated. These contributions will be made via Gibson Gives. Corporacion America and the Eurnekian family have pledged to match the raised funds, ensuring that the entire amount will be directly donated to the Armenia Fund’s Artsakh Refugee Initiative.

Julien’s Auctions will host an exclusive global auction, starting on Friday, December 8 and ending on Monday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. PST.

Regarding his initial reaction to the song when Gueikian first sent him the music close to a year ago, Tankian said: “I thought it was really cool. It sounded like a very SABBATHy kind of song, like an old-school, classic-rock vibe. When he said, ‘I want you to sing on this,’ it was like, ‘Okay, I’m in.’

“The funny thing was as I was singing it, I got the Layne Staley vibe, like ALICE IN CHAINS — that really deep, dark thing with harmonies like Jerry Cantrell‘s,” he continued. “There’s a certain aspect of what I did that reminded me of [Layne], almost like paying him homage, because it’s slow but hard. And then the second part was more trippy, almost poetry. But Cesar liked it.'”
