Aske – Vol. 2 Review

It’s been really a while since we’ve reviewed the Aske’s 2017’s EP “Broken Vow,” when we had the chance to check the band out. It took the band six years to come with this new release called “Vol. 2,” an album that shows the band has matured a lot. The band’s mix signature of Thrash Metal with Death Metal and Black Metal is still on the table. That is what makes them stand out from the crowd. And to think that

“Vol. 2” isn’t the fastest Extreme Metal album a fan could expect, in fact, tracks are a little doomy as “Royalist” with a striking, yet slow, guitar riff. The guitars in here use some Modern Black Metal techniques as the mesmerizing licks and bridges. Sometimes tracks get a little faster, but they never lose the mesmerizing mood as in “A Bruxa e o Cardeal,” this one in Portuguese, which might sound a little strange to most fans, but Aske managed well to fit it to their music. Interestingly, there is some Iron Maiden in the twin guitars here and there. Not a secret the band is always a reference to many bands. A big hail to the album’s production allowing each instrument to be heard perfectly. This is one thing I really appreciate. This is perfectly noticed while listening to “Eva (Tears from Sodom)” whose guitars’ tone is totally exciting with a great drumming. Maybe that’s the song that explains better the album. Following track The Woodcutter” is another great example of the mix Aske do here delivering cutting edge Black Metal instrumentals with some Death Metal vocalizings. Grand finale “Pazuzu (Lost into a Valley of Rot)” gives the fan that taste of something else is coming soon. We do hope so. Very promising music.

Interestingly, the album was the outcome of only two musicians Filipe Salvini, vocals and bass, and Lucas Duarte on the guitars plus the special guest appearance of drummer Thierry Dettmer. Promising, very promising.

Aske “Vol. 2” was released on September 06th via Eternal Hatred Records.
