Blessed Black – Seasons Vol. 1 Review

Unfortunately, some albums are too short. Of course, I know “Seasons Vol. 1” is an EP, but from the three tracks I heard here, the album should have at least two more. Again, it was the guitars that won me over. Although the album tittle and band name might lead to a different direction, the music in here is the good Heavy Rock with some psychedelic slant given by the keyboards. “Seasons Vol. 1” could easily be around 1967 releases due to its sonancy and mood, mainly the mood. There is something of Iron Butterfly on the heavy guitars though Blessed Black aren’t that psychedelic. As my dear child of the night might see Blessed Black are very distant from an Extreme Metal drive.

It’s unfair to look to a band as Blessed Black with 2023’s eyes because to us the sonancy the band chose is so well-established. Grand finale “Unable’s” mood is so Led Zepellian that for us it sounds more modern than it is. In fact, the track combines Led Zeppelin’s mood with Black Sabbath’s guitar picking. The guitar playing makes the song even heavier than it’s supposed to be plus the a la Jason Bonham’s drumming. Album welcomer “Hellbender” might fool the undvised child of the night again. The initial speech might do the trick as well, however, the initial thick guitars plus the vocal tone tell a different history. Looking with 2023’s eyes “Seasons Vol. 1” sounds a little Proto Metal. well, I don’t think this totally wrong looking backwords as we all should while listening to a band like Blessed Black. Many late 1960’s bands with their sonancy would be considered so.

I must admit that it was the Wah sound of the lead guitar on album opener “Hellbender” that got me by the guts. Well, it’s Heavy Rock we’re talking about, right? Naturally I got attracted by the guitars. By the way, I almost forgot to tell, a big highlight to the bass strumming in the beginning of “Unable.” Almost forgot again, the album cover might trick the fan too.

Blessed Black “Seasons Vol. 1” will be released on September 01st.
