Breed – History of Tomorrow Review

This has been a great year to Thrash Metal bands. We’ve received a great deal of Thrash Metal bands during the year and I must say one better than the other. Not only quantity, but also quality. That’s always the idea. Not bad for a genre that some believe to be worn out – I’ll admit I’m one of them. What’s their secret? Well, for sure it’s not to bring back the good old times with the same sonancy of the glorious old days of the Bay Area. No, sir. There has to be something to stand out from the crowd. The devil is the details, remember?

Let’s go right to the album tittle “History of Tomorrow” that says a lot about the band’s intent with it and its music. It’s a message from the past to reach the future. That’s exactly what the band does here. They created a link from the past direct to the future. “Of Hope and Despair” tells this tale much better as it sounds as if from the 1980’s but with a present grip. There are many hidden details in the track that posit this idea mainly Vincent Alberti’s vocals. Instrumentals go through a more modern road most of the time. Not always. There are moments the impression is of the 1980’s, but in essence the band desires to sound modern. I don’t know if I’m right, but I feel lots of Overkill and Metal Church here. Overkill’s punch and Metal Church’s finesse. Or, maybe, Overkill’s vocals and Metal Church’s instrumentals. Album tittle “History of Tomorrow” follows this idea, if you know what I mean. Maybe the track that develops this idea better in the album. It’s not really that example of a technically intricate track, but it does a good one.

Well, Breed come with this amazing record called “History of Tomorrow,” an album that has a political agenda as many Thrash Metal albums do. From where I’m standing, that’s what makes them so vivid for me because it’s not mandatory, but to have agenda is desired for a Metal band. Breed totally follow the book with opening track “In Your Face” which by the band’s words is ‘socially critical, never conforming and rejecting the mainstream.’ That’s the spirit, guys! Never conform! I have a recollection of a time when Metal was all about the music, Breed do as well.

Breed “History of Tomorrow” was released on December 15th.
