DEATH SCYTHE are a Melodic Death Metal band from Mérida, Yucatán, México. Formed in 2003 by Roberto Cervera and Gerardo Mendoza with the only goal of playing pure melodic death metal. In 2006 they released their first self produced demo track, “Hollow Darkness.”
After years in the underground scene of the Yucatan, the band released their debut album, “Killing for Pleasure” in October of 2008. DEATH SCYTHE then split, and for nearly 10 years their future remained uncertain. That is, until their bold return in june of 2018, with a smattering of live shows and new songs in the works.
In 2020, 12 years since their debut album, DEATH SCYTHE unleashed their new album Descending Into Xibalba – which was named one of the Top 10 Best Underground Metal Albums by Metal Injection.
Over the pandemic, the band not only performed in a litany of online festivals alongside bands like JINJER, SHOKRAN, and ARISE IN STABILITY, the band began work on their latest album, “Killing For Pleasure Forever.” Holding true to both their melodic death metal roots and their Mayan heritage, the album is both enthralling and captivating. Due out on August 26th, “Killing For Pleasure Forever” will be the band’s magnum opus.
