DOWN‘s appearance at the annual Dutch festival FortaRock has been cancelled by organizers following band’s frontman PHILIP ANSELMO’s ‘white power’ gesture.
Incident happened on January 22 at the fifth annual Dimebash event at Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood. The event featured iconic musicians like former PANTERA bassist Rex Brown, FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo and many others.
The FortaRock organizers said in a statement: “After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the U.S., his band DOWN is no longer welcome at FortaRock. Anselmo ended the show in the U.S. with a N*zi salute and shouted ‘white power.’
“There has been close consultation between all parties recent days, since we wanted to make a well informed decision. On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism on FortaRock.”
