Gueppardo – Power Lines Review

Gueppardo are a Hard and Heavy metal band, heavily influenced by Dio, Michael Schencker, Rata Blanca, and so many others. The mastermind of the band is its founding member and guitarist, Pery Rodríguez, who does is in the band since its inception. The band has released four full albums and one E.P being 2009’s EP “Instinto Animal,” 2015’s “Fronteira Final,” 2019’s “Execução Sumária,” 2021’s “I Am the Law,” and this “Power Lines.”

As a band name, Gueppardo belongs to a long tradition of Metal bands honoring big felines. The list is long with names as the Metal prankers Steel Panther, Steve Harris’s son British Lion, the NWOBHM Jaguar whose most known album is “Power Games, the 1980’s Panther which we reviewed here, and the most famous of all, Def Lepard. Have I forgotten any? Yeah, I guess so, but whatever. The band keeps the tradition with a pretty hard and heavy sound with some slants of Power Metal plus lots of melody.

It’s not that usual but I totally agree with the press release about the influences – Nah, I’m not that old geezer that complains about everything. Just a few things. There is a lot of Dio here especially on the guitars. By the way, if my dear child of the night pays close attention to them, the sound of “Holy Diver” and “The Last in Line” will pop in your face with some more modern tones. “Another Rebel Down” tells this tale much better.

The thing is “Power Lines” is an album with lots of emotion and melody. It’s highly recommended to all metallers who love Metal plus many melodies with some hard knocking guitars. The downpicking album opener “Dare to Live” gets the fan right from the start. The track is full of enthusiasm with inspired guitars which change the song all the way. It sounds simple, but, in fact, it’s pretty intricate as the guitars change a lot along its four minutes. Vocalist Thiago Gutierres opens his throat and gives everything he’s got. So do the guitars with inspired interventions. Tittle track “Power Lines” is a bit faster with lots of Power Metal slants with an awesome lead guitar. The kind of track my dear child of the night will listen only to get the guitar lines.

Well then, “Power Lines” is a very honest and inspired album even though its genre is the good old Hard and Heavy. So recommended.

Gueppardo “Power Lines” was independently released in 2023
