Ibridoma – Norimberga 2.0 Review

A long time ago I read a review about Queenrÿche’s debut album “The Warning.” There the reviewer finished his writing with the words “as we all can see Heavy Metal is evolving.” All this cameback to mind when I started to listen to the lastest Ibridoma’s release called “Norimberga 2.0,” an album that brought all these memories to mind. Ok, it’s not that “Norimberga 2.0” sounds like “The Warning” or Ibridoma are the new Queenrÿche. No, it’s not it. It’s the idea within. I see “Norimberga 2.0” as an album which sets a step ahead from what is believe to be Heavy Metal. Not Old School Heavy Metal because it’s alive and kicking. From where I’m standing Old School Heavy Metal refers to bands that recreate the golden years of Metal music and leave it without any changes. Not what I see here. The album is from a band that thinks Heavy Metal as something alive, and, therefore, able to evolve and to be transformed.

The album commences with album warmer “Ti ho visto andare via (I Saw You Going Away)” which has a modern Metal grip, though, in the essence, Heavy Metal is in the heart of it. Track by track, Ibridoma go adding more and more melodies and the album grows into something very unique with the band’s signature. Grand finale “Eyes of the Stranger,” for instance sounds very different from album opener with guitars with an open overtone and the ballad intent. By the way, it’s only a coincidence, but Queensrÿche have a “Eyes of a Stranger” from 1988’s “Operation: Mindcrime.” The thing is that the guitars go changing their overtone and their grip track by track as in “Into This Sea” where they use sharp and short phrases to make the main riff with a thicker tone. That creates the mesmerizing mood into the song that makes the fan headbang at large. This constant change of mooding and tones is exactly the spirit of the band doing whatever it takes to give the song the proper sonancy the band desires. All that within the spirit of Metal giving it an alive form. The band adds layers and layers of influences and features as in “Raise Your Head” where some Zakk Wylde’s guitar’s sound is added to give it a more pwerful grip.

“Norimberga 2.0” is an album that sounds really fresh due to the combinations Ibridoma provided. The most important thing is that it’s possible to feel the band’s signature here. A very desired thing by any band in this sad and lonely and pathetic little world.

Ibridoma “Norimberga 2.0” was released on December 22nd via Punishment 18 Records.
