Infernal Throne – Caelum Et Infernum Review

A long time ago, I met a band that changed the way I used to see Extreme Metal. My opinion about Extreme Metal was severely forged by bands as Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost, and Possessed. Not that I used to listen to them a lot like everyday, but I had a friend that used to play us their albums. I admit that back then only the initial two opened my eyes to a marvelous new world of heavyness and power. The others were too extreme for me that time. So, for me Extreme Metal had to be fast, very fast with little or no melody. Even more, it had to be extremely serious. There was no room for any kind of joke.

The band name was Tormentor. It was very different from everything I have heard on Extreme Metal. First vocals. There were all kinds of variations of vocals from clean to harsh and gutural in all the album, not only in the tracks. I was in shock. Never thought this would be possible. Second, Tormentor added some theatrical movements into their music what made it sound sometimes like a twisted and uncanny circus. It was only when I started writing review here that I got bands with the same grip. Third, instrumentals were also pretty varied. There wasn’t a track that sounded like the other. It was the first time I listened to that mesmerizing and martial guitars as the second wave of Black Metal bands used to do. I got the album from eMule – do you remember it, my dear child of the night? The problem is that there are many Tormentors and I can’t find other albums. But, what does it have to do with Infernal Throne and “Caelum Et Infernum”?

“Caelum Et Infernum” sounds a lot with Tormentor. The same vocals variety and range. There is no track as the other. Infernal Throne really knew how to make a difference. They caused me the same impression Tormentor did even thought they have much more of Thrash Metal grip. Here my dear child of the night will also find these theatrical movements. The same happens with tempo shifts. The album is just full of them as in “Thy Flame Of Darkness” which is followed by “Cataclysm Of The Soul” with a Hardcore grip. This latter being the heaviest of the album with the angriest vocals. And there is always “Eternal Life” with its epic intro and inspired leads to make the lot of a difference in the album.

If you want an album that will surprise you and make a great impression, “Caelum Et Infernum” is the album.

Infernal Throne “Caelum Et Infernum” was released on September 29th via Theogonia Records.
