JOURNEY Changes ‘Don’t Stop Believin” Lyrics At NFL Game

Journey NFL 2024

During the NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions, JOURNEY, the iconic American rock band, stirred excitement by altering the lyrics of their timeless anthem “Don’t Stop Believin‘, from from “just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit” to “born and raised in San Francisco.”

It remains uncertain whether the majority of the audience at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, recognized the change, as the band’s updated lyrics were overshadowed by the continued chants of “South Detroit” from fervent Detroit Lions supporters.

The band’s performance consisted of four tracks: “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” “Be Good to Yourself,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

JOURNEY features founder Neal Schon on lead guitar, Jonathan Cain on keyboards and backing vocals, Arnel Pineda as lead vocalist, Jason Derlatka on keyboards and vocals, Deen Castronovo on drums and vocals, and Todd Jensen on bass.

Since its inception in 1973, JOURNEY has amassed an impressive track record, boasting 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and global album sales exceeding 100 million. Their Greatest Hits album is certified 15 times-platinum, a remarkable achievement that places JOURNEY among the select few bands with diamond certification. Notably, their iconic anthem “Don’t Stop Believin'” alone has garnered over one billion streams.
