Mother Misery – From Shadow to Ghost Review

There are so many style’s labeling these days. Ok, there were in the past as well, but that brings so much confusion when to label a band. Alright, it’s not really necessary to do it, but there are reasons to. In fact, when writing a review it gets easier to the fan to understand the kind of sound the band makes. It gives a pretty good idea of what will be found in the album. As I said before, there are bands mixing all kinds of influences into their music to try to make something new. That makes it even more difficult to get a clue of how to label them due to the immense quantity of information bands are bringing out today.

The music in Mother Misery “From Shadow to Ghost” may be labeled as Heavy Rock, Hard Rock and Melodic Heavy Metal depending on whom you ask. If you ask me, from what I’ve heard here in the album, I agree and don’t agree. First of all, I agree the album is hodgepodge of heavy music influences as my dear child of the night can check it pout by listening to the album. There are tracks as “Reveal Them” with such a 1970’s slant while “Don’t Be Broken” has a 1980’s post-punk mood. There are albums that the band get the spirit of a certain epoch and follow it right throught the album. Not Mother Misery. It’s possible to notice the band’s intent to have a foot in the present and the other foot in the past. In general, the album has an Old School Metal grip as the guitars played in it tell us. They are too heavy to be Heavy Rock and the tones are utterly different from what they used back then. The leads are also pretty much linked to Old School Metal, therefore are the techniques used. The track that could be more near the experience of a Heavy Rock song would be the intro of “Someone Else.” However, the track itself goes by another road.

“From Shadow to Ghost” is an interesting album to listen to. I’d say it’s also a unique experience due to the hodgepodge of influences Mother Misery deliver the fan resulting in an album very much likeable to listen to.

Mother Misery “From Shadow to Ghost” will be released on November 15th via Doc Gator Records.
