Nemedian Chronicles – The Savage Sword Review

Today is a dark, plumbeuous, rainy Saturday. Suddenly I saw myself being caught by the mood of the day while listening to the orchestral intro “Nemedian Chronicles.” I’ll admit I was also caught by the initial speech reminding me all about the Power Metal worn out features I always talk about when I review a Power Metal album. Worn out or not the fact is that I loved the album at first listen. Maybe to me the thing that caught my eyes in “The Savage Sword” was the resembling sonancy to the might Power Metal pioneers Blind Guardian. Alexandre Duffau’s voice addresses a lot to Hansi Kürsch’s. So does the music in here. Maybe I was also caught by the nostalgia feeling that this kind of day give us. Coincidence or not, I remember to have heard Blind Guardian’s 1996’s “The Forgotten Tales for the first time in a day like this.

If you are a Blind Guardian fan, you’ll love “The Savage Sword” for sure. As soon as album warmer “Nemedian Chronicles” leaves “Born on a Battlefield” comes with a vigorous drumming and guitars leaving no doubtif there was any, that this is a Power Metal album. For the better or for the worse, “The Savage Sword” is a typical Power Metal album. My guess is that intentionally Nemedian Chronicles have no problem in showing this to their fans. All genre’s clichès are here. There’s no doubt about that. Wanna know what? That’s exactly what makes this album so great the way I see it because it took me by my emotional memories. – There’s always a place for them in our lives, isn’t there? It’s an album that certainly will bring memories to you. The kind of album that will make the fan remember and go far away. I had a recollection of Blind Guardian’s 1996’s “The Forgotten Talesinstantly. Some might think this is bad. Somehow, in general, I do too. However, instead of thrashing the band and the album I decided to write ablut the great things they me remember with their music. Do we need another Guardian? Maybe not, but “The Savage Sword” is a great album in terms of musicianship. Sometimes all we need is to listen to a comfortable music that takes us to some hidden places in our memory. “The Savage Sword” did that to me.
