The vocals in general are much more barked than anything else. If it were other genre that would be a con or worst, but as we’re talking about Metal music it’s a pro. “War Crime” has this kind of vocals. The guitar has a low tone and strong distortion almost a fuzz, however the effect of trying to hide the sound works on the opposite direction as the sonancy gets pretty clear. By the way, the guitar’s sharp interventions are a highlight to the track. Second track “Domestic Animal” follows the same path with the barked vocals and the inspired guitar interventions. So far no punk features detected. “Bloody Cross” changes a little. The instrumental gets more near the NWOBHM thought the low tones and the voclas get a little less barked, but still interesting. By the way, it’s fair to say that the general mood in “Metal Punk Massacre” is a NWOBHM band with low tones and different vocals. Maybe from there we can find some Punk influences. Or maybe on vocals. I really don’t know. I only know that the music in here is good ands exciting. Very far, but really very far, the fan may find some influences of Motörhead as in “Gate of Destruction.” Or some Black Metal as in “Phantom.” By the way, on second thought vocals remind a lot Butthole Surfers’, if you know what I mean.
There was no massacre in “Metal Punk Massacre” the kind of album that first surprises you because it wasn’t what you expected, but then, pleases due to what you hear. Good choice.
P.S.: Then I read the press release and finally got the essence of the band. Ah…
