Profane Burial – My Plateau Review

While listening to this Profane Burial and “My Plateau,” their sophomore album following 2018’s “The Rosewater Park Legend” I got this idea that my general view is that Black Metal and Classical Music is a perfect match. It’s not at first view, but Black Metal owes a lot to Classical Music. However, it would be impossible to address all the contributions black metallers got from it, but be sure that there is a lot to say.

It wouldn’t be fair to say “My Plateau” is a symphonic album. From where I’m standing, symphonic albums have more elements than I saw here. My feeling is that this album would be a perfect soundtrack to a a Black Metal inspired movie , if such thing existed. All songs sound to eb a part of a sick film. The noir terrors, for instance. The trumpets and all the mood of “Horror Code” would be perfect for this. The orchestration seems to be prepared for this. Maybe a representation of very, but very bad dream.

The album commences with the fast tittle track “My Plateau” with fast guitars and eerie vocals. By it it’s impossible to tell Profane Burial are a Symphonic Black Metal band. I’d rather say there are Symphonic Black Metal into their music. That’s all. The background piano some fans may here is this, a background piano. There are some orchestrations, but they are not prominent. In fact, they grow throughout the album. Each track goes adding more and more layers of orchestrations to reach its appex at grand finale, the aforementioned “Horror Code.”

Ok, “My Plateau” is a fine album for black metallers. I don’t really know if it is heavy enough to some fans. Maybe some fans would like some more guitars than pianos, but, in general, the album is pleasant.

Profane Burial “My Plateau” was released on March 01st via Crime Records.
