Quasarborn – Novo Oružje Protiv Bola Review

Please, don’t ask me, sometimes I do some comparisons that even I don’t really understand why. When I was listening to tittle track “Novo Oružje Protiv Bola (A New Weapon Against Pain)” the impression I got it was from Loudness, the thunder of the east. I know, I know, both languages are very different, but the way vocalist Luka Matković was singing reminded a lot of Minoro Nihara, their classic vocalist of “Thunder in the East” era. Impressions of a non-binary reviewer. I know, this isn’t the term, but I thought it would fit somehow. We writers sometimes love to play with the words.

“Novo Oružje Protiv Bola (A New Weapon Against Pain)” commences with tittle track “Novo Oružje Protiv Bola” which gives a clue what Quasarborn really are, that is, a combination of old Thrash Metal features with some Modern Metal features. I have to say the band is a breath fresh air in a Metal subgenre which I consider a little worn out. In terms of comparison we’ve been receiving much more Hard Rock bands than Thrash Metal bands which is a historical nonsense. From where I’m standing, I guess following track “Urobor” delivers this mix better than tittle track with more Modern Metal features than the previous one. But it’s “Ne možeš imati sve (You can’t have it all)” that made my impression of Loudness stronger. Truth is, Loudness were pretty heavy back then and Quasarborn, to some extent, makes me remember them. On the other hand, it’s “Od kolevke do rova (From the cradle to the trenches)” which has the most Thrash Metal slant with a strong Hardcore grip. It’s a track to breathlessly headbang. Its speech kind of remind me of Drakkar’s “Inferno” whose speech is inspired on Dante’s eponymous book. To be more precise, the eponymous chapter. Then comes the gentle “Ogledalo (A mirror)” with its jazzy slants to change everything I wrote about the album.

“Novo Oružje Protiv Bola” is an album to change someones opinion about Thrash Metal. If the tracks I cited don’t, “Menja se (It’s changing)” will. Literally speaking.

Quasarborn “Novo Oružje Protiv Bola” will be released on September 15th via Doc Gator Records.
