Ringworm – Seeing Through Fire Review

Right to it. “Seeing Through Fire” is an album that goes right through the fan’s jugular. This feature that Metal bands inherited from Hardcore is clearly the most important feature of the album. It’s it that makes the fan love it. It’s it that makes reviewers like me dedicate some minutes of my life to enjoy this sincere and open tribute to musical aggression in its purest form. “Seeing Through Fire” is an eleven tracked album dedicated to the most stupid – in the good sense – way of showing aggression. It’s fast and furious with amazing leads that sound as guns blazing throught the fire as the album tittle says. To some extent, Ringworm found the best way to combine right-to-it instrumentals from Hardcore with the finesse and musical prowess of Metal. An album to praise the loud. Or, even better, a praise to the loud.

“Seeing Through Fire” is a tribute to the great Crossover albums and bands from the 1980s. Bands as Corrosion of Conformity and Nuclear Assault are so damn well represented here by Ringworm. Unfortunately, this is an art that has been lost through time. The fast as a bullet chordly guitar riffs combined with the simple, but effective drumming makes a hell of a combination. Add to this an acid and corrosive voice and voilà the recipe to destruction is done.

It’s hard to point out a song as the best as Ringworm’s music make them so neat. I guess “Power and Blood” is the track that can sum all of them up with the sick leads that make a bridge to the unexpected acoustic intro of “Playing God” with the very prominent bass lines of the album. To some extent, it reminds me the best times of a band that forgot to be itself. No, I won’t say the name but it’s one of the most famous band of Metal era. “Playing God” is heavy, not fast. It’s epic in a way only a band as Ringworm could do it.

“Seeing Through Fire” is easily one of the best of the year. The killer combination of power and soul in the  album unbeatable in all senses. A big hail to it!

Ringworm “Seeing Through Fire” will be released on August 18th via Nuclear Blast Records.
