Destruction - Born to Thrash (Live in Germany)

Me and Destruction have an interesting story. Zillion years ago – please, don’t you ask me exactly when, two friends of mine decided to give me a birthday present that they thought would annoy me a lot. That time I wasn’t that fan of Thrash Metal and Destruction’s reputation among NWOBHM fans was to be a big bunch of noise. Ok, we were the kind of Metal fans that had a lot of biases, the kind today’s metallers call elitist. So, with that urge of bothering the most, they decided to buy an used copy – vinil, and of course used, they wouldn’t sacrifice they poor boy’s dollars with it new – of the “Mad Butcher” EP. Meanwhile, I was nourishing a veiled sympathy for Thrash Metal bands, but, of course, they didn’t know that. I guess that by that time I had already tasted Nuclear Assault and some other bands which I can’t recall correctly. well, I don’t have to say that I loved the EP. That insane drumming and cadence got me immeadiatly. Unfortunately, I can’t explain why, I lost track of Destruction and other bands from that on. But I still have the EP!

Cut to 2020. I received this Destruction “Born to Thrash (Live in Germany)” with great contentment and joy. Needless to say that this review was already written by the moment I received and downloded the album. Exactly the kind of review that writes by itself. I have to say that the band has changed a lot from the “Mad Butcher” EP technically and musically. It’s still Thrash, but the band evolved their playing. That’s an easily perceived thing in an alive album. Being a quartet helped a lot with those changes, if you ask me. “Born to Thrash (Live in Germany)” is a tour around the band’s almost forty-year career and a present for the importance of it to Metal music. The first thing that poped up was that “Nailed to the Cross” is completely different from its studio version. Hard to explain why that happened, what I do know is that I liked that version better. Another relevant thing to say is that the band was able to reproduce alive the insane and frentic studio mood, what is a very hard thing to accomplish specially when it comes to the drumming.

Alright then, “Born to Thrash (Live in Germany)” is the perfect album fot the passionate and insane fans of the band, but not only them, if you ask me. If you are a fan of the great Metal music, this is also for you.
