Original Drummer And Founding Member Of LYNYRD SKYNYRD Dies In Car Crash

According to Television station W.S.B. Channel 2  in Atlanta Georgia, Robert (Bob) Lewis Burns Jr. was killed in a single car accident in Bartow County, Georgia around 11:56 pm est. The Georgia State Patrol has stated Burns’ car left the road while approaching a curve and stuck a mailbox and a tree. Burns was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was 64.

Burns Helped found legendary southern rock group LYNYRD SKYNYRD in 1964 with Larry Junstrom and Gary Rossington and stayed until 1974. A heartfelt post from the ARTIMUS PYLE BAND‘s Faceboock page this morning, fellow former and secondary drummer Artimus Pyle‘s current band stated “Fans we are absolutely devastated this morning after learning that our dear friend, band mate and original LYNYRD SKYNYRD drummer, Bob Burns has passed away. Bob was one of the kindest, sweetest men you would ever want to know and a rock solid drummer. Artimus calls him the Ringo Star of southern rock. We were honored to have shared the stage with Bob and were looking forward to many more shows down the road. Bob we love you and will surely miss you! Prayers for his daughters Lou and Kristen. RIP old friend.”
