STEEL PANTHER’s SATCHEL Recalls Calling Out ‘P*ssy’ ZAKK WYLDE

In a new interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, STEEL PANTHER guitarist Satchel looked back on an incident involving BLACK LABEL SOCIETY frontman and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde at the 2001 premiere of the movie Rock Star.

After interviewer asked, “”There’s one story about you — I think it was from the 2001 Rock Star movie premiere – Zakk Wylde climbed on stage and asked you to play ‘War Pigs’ I think. How did you survive an attack of an angry Zakk Wylde?”, Satchel responded: “That was an awesome story because Zakk was so f—cking hammered at that show.

“And I saw him in the audience and I said, ‘Zakk f*ckin’ Wylde, you better get on this f*cking stage right f*cking now or you’re a f*cking p*ssy!’ Right, I called him out.

“And he looked at me, and he was so drunk, and he just walked right up on the stage, and — first of all, Zakk is a huge dude; and he had f*ckin’ boots on, he was 6’10” — at least it felt that way — and he looked at me.

“I took my guitar off, which was a $100 BC Rich, handed him the guitar and he goes like, ‘I’m not f*ckin’ playin’ the guitar! I’m singin’!’ And I go, ‘OK, what do you want to sing?’ And he goes, ‘Play some MARSHALL TUCKER BAND!’ And I was like, ‘Zakk, I have zebra spandex on right now. What makes you think I know any MARSHALL TUCKER songs? I don’t know any MARSHALL TUCKER! I’m in a f*ckin’ heavy metal band!’

He continued: “And he looked me, and he was so drunk, and he goes, ‘Alright, play ‘War Pigs’ by BLACK SABBATH or I’m gonna beat your a—s!’ And I didn’t know what to do, it was pretty scary! [Laughs] He was very drunk and I didn’t have any doubts that he would’ve beaten our a—s if we didn’t play ‘War Pigs.’ So I looked at our drummer and I was like, ‘Holy sh*t!’ Now this is before we were STEEL PANTHER, and it was when [current KORN drummer] Ray Luzier was playing drums, I think.

“I said, ‘Ray! F*ckin’ play ‘War Pigs’ right now!’ And me and Ray went into ‘War Pigs’ — and of course, Lexxi Foxx was on bass, and he didn’t know f*ckin’ ‘War Pigs’ at all. And I looked at him and said, ‘Dude, you better follow my f*cking fingers right now or we’re all gonna be dead!’

“So, we made it through all of ‘War Pigs’ and Zakk didn’t kill us, so I guess we did a good enough job. But it was scary,” Satchel added. And it was funny because I talked to Zakk later about that, and I was like, ‘Dude, you were at our show, do you remember that? You almost killed us! You told us to play ‘War Pigs’ and said you’d beat our a—ses if we didn’t do it!’

“And he was like, ‘Yeah… I don’t really remember that. I was f*ckin’ drunk at the time.’ It was pretty cool, and he was totally cool about it. He didn’t remember it, but it was awesome. But he’s like that, I love that guy.”
