The famous BLACK SABBATH bench located in Birmingham, England, underwent temporary removal earlier this week for renovation, as reported by the Westside Business Improvement District.
On Monday, February 5, the entire sculpture was dismantled, a process that took several hours, with three individuals required to transport the heads alone.
Overseen by Dudley-based company Midtherm, known for its expertise in various forms of creative metalwork, the refurbishment aims to rejuvenate the iconic “heavy metal” bench situated on Black Sabbath Bridge, overlooking the canal off Broad Street. Officially inaugurated by Geezer and Tony in June 2019, the bench has since drawn numerous BLACK SABBATH enthusiasts and media attention from around the globe.
Crafted from handmade stainless steel by Gateway Steel Fabrications within the city, the bench features depictions of Osbourne, Iommi, Butler, and Ward, accompanied by the inscription “Geezer. Ozzy. Tony. Bill. Made in Birmingham 1968.”
The brainchild of BLACK SABBATH super-fan Mohammed Osama, the bench project was developed in collaboration with the Westside Business Improvement District.
The bench’s artistic design was conceived by Egyptian artist Tarek Abdelkawi.
