Blood Red Throne – Nonagon Review

It took me a longer time than expected, but now I’m able to tell the difference between Death Metal vocals and Black Metal ones. For laymen it’s so easy to tell; they’re all the same; however, for metalheads they do differentiate. As I always say – not me really, but the popular saying – the devil is in the details. Yeah, gutural vocals do have their very particular nuances. I say that because our review of today Blood Red Throne with their eleventh release – Wow, praise to that – “Nonagon” told those nuances to me with a serious spree of Extreme Metal vocals. Well, no news about that as 2021’s “Imperial Congregation” told us as well. It’s fair to say the dudes are master of Extreme Metal vocals. This new release wouldn’t be any different. It’s also fair to say that each song of this album is a lesson on Extreme Metal vocals. No, I’m not overreacting.

Ok, “Nonagon” commences as Death Metal as possible with a horrofying acoustic guitar that progresses into vocals that scared me out of my skin.No kidding. That’s the spirit. Just as reminder, ‘nonagon’ means a plane figure with nine straight sides and nine angles. By album warmer “Epitaph Inscribed” the fan might notice the tittle isn’t that far from the truth if vocals are considered as the aforementioned angles. Of course, there aren’t nine kinds of vocals here, but we’re not that far. Regarding the album, on the other hand, it may be possible to say so considering also the instrumentals which are that varied as well. I just loved all the guitar work done here with melodic lines as well as fiercy and furious riffings. Not only the guitars are a highlight but also the bass, pay close attention to its and so vivid metallic sound in “Every Silent Plea,” a track that delivers everything Blood Red Throne have got.

“Nonagon” is an album that goes from the known Death Metal from album warmer “Epitaph Inscribed” to Melodic Death Metal feeling of album tittle track “Nonagon,” a track that showcases how versatile Blood Red Throne are. It’s amazing to see how “Split Tongue Sermon” commences with that fairly common trick of the two guitars bouncing from one side to another. Always effective. The thing is that the guitars get more and more intricate as the song goes showing another facete of the band that is the Technical Death Metal slant.

I’ll say for sure this is an album that won’t disappoint any hardcore fan. Blood Red Throne kept all the great stuff they are used to release in their albums.
