Grand Royale – Welcome to Grime Town Review

Grand Royale come back with an energetic and intense new album called “Welcome to Grime Town” which resembles a lot their first effort reviewed here 2019’s “Take It Easy” with some influences of The Rolling Stones, some Aerosmith, and many other Heavy Rock bands from the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. What calls the fan’s attention immeadiately is the high octaned and adrenalized music the band offers. Pure youth energy at its max. In fact, there is nothing new in here. Just the good old lively and spirited Rock with its most sparkling attitude. By the way, attitude is something that Grand Royale have a lot. There’s no doubt about it. Short songs with no ballads, no slow themes, no lovin’, no sweetin’, no refreshments. The longest track “Seven Days No Sleep” is about four minutes and it’s no ballad at all. Only the dirty and filthy mood of Rock that we all appreciate. The grand finale “The End,” which is more bluesy than slow, may confuse the fan, but believe me, the track is hard as the others. Alright, the song tittle isn’t the most original of all, but who cares?

The fan is immeadiately welcomed by the guitar inspired piece “Tell Me” with great riffs and a cadence that makes the fan headbang at large even though this album is no Metal music piece. Guitars solos are fast, inspired and full of feeling more than technique. Just the way most of them have to be. I guess that the track that represents Grand Royale the most is “Run Officer Run” with the girls choir and the debauched mood the track brings. The kind of track to bring the dead. The catchy chorus get the fan by the liver due to the enormous quantities of alcohol it sweets.

The music in “Welcome to Grime Town” is as simple as life could be. No worries about being the fastest and the most technical band of this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet. It’s fair to say that the tracks are so organic that they sound to have come from the liver. “Welcome to Grime Town” is good old whiskey soaked music.  No more, no less. And that’s enough for the days we’re living in.

Grand Royale “Welcome to Grime Town” will be released on March 17th via The Sign Records.
