Necronomicon Ex Mortis – You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over Review

Please, avoid any confusion, this is Necronomicon Ex Mortis, a quintet whose debut EP was the self-tittled  “Necronomicon Ex Mortis” released on March 31st, 2023, followed by the release of the Silver Bullet” EP in August of that year. Though the press release defines the band as Death Metal I agree to disagree because even though vocals are Death Metal drenched, the instrumentals are much more Thrash Metal bound. So, it’s not the Necronomicon whose albums we reviewed years ago. By the way, there is another Necronomicon we also reviewed years ago, but they were more related to Doom Metal. At first I had a strangement with the band’s name, but then, looking closely I realized there was an Ex Mortis with it.

“You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over” is a nice album for whom is into a crossover of Thrash Metal and Death Metal. As I said before, the album has mix of both as vocals are more of a Death Metal lineage and the instrumentals are more of a Thrash Metal grip. Album warmer “My Bloody Valentine” reminds a lot At War, an 1980’s band which I guess released only two albums. What called my eyes immeadiately was that sound of fingers hammering the bass. An unforgettable sound, if you ask me. Interestingly, I bought At War’s release self-tittled album because of a review I read in a magazine. Following track “Leprechaun” has something of Arch Enemy which takes it to a Death Metal level forgetting a little the Thrash Metal instrumentals. That’s why I say it’s a crossover album. Now “In the Mouth of Madness” gets the Doom Metal lane with despaired vocals and slow cadences. I really liked its bass drumming doubling the effect of the cadence. It seems a very thing to do, but in fact it takes a lot of attention and technique. In “The Dead Zone” the show is of the guitars with many remarkable interventions.

Album tittle “You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over” is some kind of a dark humor thing. The kind of dark humor it’s possible to find in many bands as Nuclear Assault, for instance, where the band gets very influenced from. Interesting album for whom is interested in good headbangs.

Necronomicon Ex Mortis “You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over” will be released on June 28th.
